高円宮妃久子殿下 御講演「根付-高円宮コレクション」 / Princess Takamado’s Lecture on Netsuke

The Canada-Japan Society is pleased to invite you to a special lecture meeting featuring HIH Princess Takamado, Patron of the Society, who will speak on the theme: “Netsuke - the Prince and Princess Takamado Collection”.

Netsuke are miniature carvings of animals, plants and people made from wood and ivory, which were used as toggles for portable medicine cases, tobacco pouches and the like suspended from obi sashes during the Edo period.

An avid Netsuke collector together with her late husband Prince Takamado, Princess Takamado has recently received a doctorate degree in the study of Netsuke from the Osaka University of Arts, and in celebration of this honour the Canada-Japan Society is hosting her special lecture to enlighten Society members on the traditional Japanese craft.

The Society is very fortunate to be able to hold this event at the historic Official Residence of Canadian Ambassador Jonathan T. Fried, thanks to his kind cooperation.

Following her lecture, Princess Takamado will spend some time mingling with participants, during which time coffee and cake will be served.

Members are welcome to bring family members and guests.

As seating is limited to 60 participants, registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
