第36回 芝増上寺 薪能 / Zojoji Temple "Takigi Noh"

Canada-Japan Society kindly announces that on the evening of September 28st, 2019 (Saturday) , an exceptional NOH play in the inner court of Tokugawa SHOGUN’s temple (Zohjo-ji temple at Shiba Park area) will be performed.

You may travel to an almost unreal world in front of the NOH scene set up for the event in front of the 4 centuries old Sanmon gate of the temple and lit up by bonfire at four corners. Hence ‘Takigi (bonfire) NOH’.

The origin of NOH play goes back to the 8th century and in the 14th century genius father and son, KANZE Kan-ami and KANZE Zeami heightened the play to the level what we see today. Beauty and philosophy, those may be what you would find from the play.

Maestro UMEWAKA Masaharu who will perform Fujito and Midare Sou-no-mai, kindly booked B rank seats for the members of Canada-Japan Society. Those reserved seats will be allocated on first come first served basis.

Please note that in case of rain, NOH will be performed inside the Zohjo-ji temple building.

For registered ticket holders, there will be a free-of-charge workshop (in Japanese) on how to enjoy Noh on September 26th.
